Madonna Galeano

B LL B (Hons) (QUT)

Coming from a farming background in the Cairns area, Madonna studied in Brisbane and obtained her law degree from Queensland University of Technology in 2012 before admission as a solicitor in 2014.

She returned to Cairns to begin her law career, practising in both commercial litigation and employment law with local law firms until joining Peters Bosel in March 2017.

Madonna acts for clients across many employment-related areas, including an array of matters such as unfair dismissal, general protections applications,  award interpretations, contract drafting, HR policies, terminations, bullying and harassment, discrimination matters and work health and safety prosecutions.

In this capacity, she has appeared for clients in State and Federal courts, the Fair Work Commission, the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal (QCAT), the Queensland Human Rights Commission (formerly the Anti-Discrimination Commission of Queensland) and the Queensland Industrial Relations Commission.

Madonna currently sits on the Board of a local not-for-profit organisation, Vocational Partnerships Group Incorporated and volunteers her time adjudicating local public speaking and debating competitions, and has volunteered at the Cairns Community Legal Centre.  Up until March 2017, Madonna was an active and dedicated member of the executive committee of the Far North Queensland Law Association.

Her local background, says Madonna, allows her to offer more than a “cookie cutter” approach when it comes to providing strategic, commercially minded legal advice that meets the individual demands and requirements of clients in the region.

“The ability to advocate for either an employer or employee to ensure there is natural fairness, justice and an opportunity to be heard on an issue is what motivates me,” says Madonna. “Employment law is an ever-changing sphere that’s going to change even more in the future, which makes it an exciting field in which to work, but it’s also about achieving the best strategic and commercial outcomes for our clients in today’s workplace environment.”
